Dr. Brian Walsh is a general dentist who joined the Johnstown community in 1992 when he began practicing alongside the esteemed Dr. Joseph Urdock. Dr. Walsh is proud to carry the distinct honor of continuing the lineage of the dedicated and caring dental professionals that served the Johnstown area before him. Carrying on the tradition of offering exceptional dental care to this community is a privilege that Dr. Walsh and the staff of Johnstown Dental Care do not take lightly.
Honoring the legacy of the dental professionals that came before him is so important that when you step into Johnstown Dental Care the first thing you will see is an antique dental museum. Amazingly, it includes some of the first dental instruments used by Dr. Preston, who was the first to practice dentistry in the Johnstown community back in the early 1900s.
Dr. Walsh began his education at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1987 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in1992. Upon completion of his dental college requirements, Dr. Walsh went on to train in an advanced oral surgery training program for general dentists, where he also earned his dental sedation license. Still eager for more knowledge and training, he participated in an additional one year General Practice Residency at The Ohio State University. As a clinician who prides himself as a student of the dental arts, Dr. Walsh has continued his postgraduate studies by training and graduating from the Midwest Implant Institute, receiving training and serving as a faculty member at Nationwide Children’s Hospital Pediatric Dental Clinic, and serving as a surgical clinical instructor in the General Practice Residency program at The Ohio State University.
As the list of his educational endeavors shows, Dr. Walsh wholly believes the best dental caregivers are the most well-rounded. For this reason, he is currently enrolled in a two-year orthodontic training program for general dentists at the McGann Postgraduate School of Dentistry, where he is receiving training in traditional and advanced anchorage orthodontics, TMJ and airway therapies, and sleep appliance devices. This is very exciting for him. In his own words, “My entire life’s body of work will tie together after completing this particular area of training.”
“Excellent dental practice! Dr. Walsh is an excellent, kind, and gentle dentist with a great sense of humor. I enjoy my visits with him and his friendly, well-trained hygienists very much. They always take care of my teeth quickly and efficiently. The receptionists are also extremely kind and will help you out when you need an appointment. I can't imagine a better run dental practice.”
With a previous career as a dental hygienist, Dr. Mary Kalec brings a unique understanding and passion for gentle and thorough patient care.
Dr. Kalec is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and began serving the people of Johnstown in 2010. During her time at the home of the Buckeyes, Dr. Kalec was a member of the National Dental Hygiene Honor Society, Sigma Phi Alpha, and a member of the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
She continues to keep current in the dental field through extensive continuing education and her membership in the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association, and the Columbus Dental Association.
“I had a great experience with Dr. Kalec at my last visit. This visit was the result of my first visit in over two years (way to long). It was discovered that I had several cavities and it would require two visits to remove and fill. She took great care in order to minimize my discomfort and really kept a good pace so I was out on time. As some who does not deal well with receiving shots in my mouth I really appreciated the care she gave me. Thanks Dr. Walsh, Dr. Kalec and staff for another great experience.”
